What Is Permanent Cosmetics?
Permanent cosmetics, otherwise known as micro-pigmentation, dermalgraphics, cosmetic tattooing and microdermalpigmentation is the process of implanting permanent color under the skin.
Different cultures have adorned their bodies and faces with tattoos made from natural pigments since the beginning of time. Cleopatra is one woman many of us are familiar with. Today, the idea is to create a much more natural look that enhances a womans natural lines and features.
Beautiful You employs the manual SofTap hand method for permanent cosmetic application. This is a manual kick-off, lifting tissue and depositing pigment versus forming a hole like the traditional electrical device does. The SofTap method allows precise placement of pigment. This technique also allows for hairline strokes when wanted as in the case of eyebrow applications, as opposed to the drawn on look of the traditional electrical tattoo machine. Beautiful You is the only SofTap studio in SW Missouri.
Why would I consider permanent cosmetics?
Woman who apply makeup on a daily basis and have for many years, are the first to consider permanent cosmetics for themselves. A womans natural coloring begins to fade as she ages and with repeated exposures to toxins in our environment such as pollutants, chemicals and with the effects of the sun. Gone are the rosy colored lips of our youth that we now find needing a touch of lipstick several times throughout the day. Permanent cosmetics can restore what time has taken away or what nature has forgotten to give in the first place. Many women wont leave the house without at least the bare minimum of makeup they use on their face. Permanent cosmetics is a wonderful option if you find yourself hesitating to run to the grocery or to the mall before you get your makeup on.
Women who are allergic to conventional makeup often consider permanent cosmetics as an alternative. Aging and the need for eye glasses as well as other health issues related to loss of motor skills such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, stroke or Parkinsons disease are practical reasons for considering permanent cosmetic application. Active women who want to look their best no matter the circumstances, such as during swimming, tennis, bicycling, aerobics and dancing often worry about sweating off and having to reapply their cosmetics. Permanent cosmetics is the solution!
Lets face it, people are busy. Mothers and other busy professionals often dont have time to apply makeup. Entertainers, actresses and models who apply makeup several times a day are good candidates for permanent cosmetics.
What can I expect?
An initial consultation taking approximately 15 minutes will allow you to peruse photos of permanent cosmetic recipients using the SofTap method. At this time you will fill out a health questionnaire and have any questions answered that you may have. A registered nurse who is licensed and certified in permanent cosmetic application will work with you in determining color, line shape and intensity of application to be used in your procedure. We will work together until we get the exact color you want. A before photograph will be taken. We will also do a small patch test on an area of skin behind your ear. This is done to determine if you have any allergies to either the pigment used or to any of the topical agents used for numbing the skin where permanent cosmetics will be applied. This is painless and must be performed 24-48 hours before your procedure.
At Beautiful You, your comfort during your procedure is of most importanc! A clean and private environment awaits you. You will lie down on a comfortable bed with a knee bolster to keep your back in alignment. Blankets and pillows are available to keep you warm. Relaxing music is available to help make your experience a positive one.
Your permanent cosmetic professional will explain everything she is doing as it occurs. She will answer any questions you have along the way.
At the end of your procedure, an after photo will be taken. The nurse will review your after care instructions with you and answer any additional questions you may have. An aftercare ointment may be purchased for your comfort.
Is It Really Permanent?
Technically, permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because color is implanted into the dermal layers of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo, some fading may occur and may require periodic maintenance for an optimal look. The SofTap method has the lowest percentage of fading in the industry.
What if I am someone who likes to use different colors when I apply my makeup?
The goal of permanent cosmetics is to enhance what has naturally already been given you. For instance, if your eyelashes are a dark brown color, then applying a dark brown eyeliner with permanent cosmetics will enhance that lash line. Additional color can still be applied with conventional makeup if a more dramatic look is desired for a given occasion. This pertains to eye liner, brows and the lips. There are many permanent cosmetic colors available to choose from.
Is it painful?
Because there is a break in the skin, the application of permanent cosmetics can be slightly uncomfortable, particularly on the lips where the tissue has a lot of nerve endings. The SofTap method is the absolute least painful of all permanent cosmetic applications and causes the least amount of tissue damage such as bleeding and bruising. SofTap is the gentlest approach to permanent cosmetics on the market today.
Topical anesthetic ointments are used to decrease the incidence of discomfort during your procedure. Often people will take anti-anxiety or a pain reliever medication prescribed by their physician before their procedure. Most people are fine with just an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Aleve, Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Post-procedure, an ice pack can help to alleviate any pain and swelling that might occur. Your permanent cosmetic professional will not be able to supply you with pain medication other than the topical agents used in your procedure, so make sure you have this available to you some other way.
The nurse performing your procedure will work with you during the procedure on deep breathing, an effective tool for relaxation and pain control.
How long does the procedure take?
The initial procedure can take anywhere from 11/2 to 21/2 hours. This is largely due to the time it takes for the topical anesthetic to reach its maximum efficiency. Feel free to bring a book to read or to take a nap while youre waiting for the anesthetic to take effect. Touch ups take approximately half the time the initial procedure took.
Is permanent cosmetics safe?
Yes! Beautiful You utilizes the SofTap method, the absolute safest in the industry. Each individual tool is disposable and is never reused for a later procedure or patient but rather disposed of immediately after your procedure.
A registered nurse trained in universal precautions and infection control applies the permanent cosmetics. She is licensed, certified and insured to apply permanent cosmetics in the State of Missouri.
Standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are followed at Beautiful You. Gloves are worn on every patient and changed as needed during the procedure.
Documented allergic reactions to permanent cosmetic procedures are extremely rare.
How much do permanent cosmetics cost?
Pricing begins at $225 and goes up from there with discounts given for multiple site applications. This includes up to two touch ups after the initial procedure if performed within a one year timeframe.
Consider the savings of time and money used for purchasing conventional cosmetics over time as you make your decision.
