About Us

Since 1952, when our founder the great Mel Bay set up shop in Kirkwood, music education has been the top priority for those who have carried out his vision. Mel Bay Music pioneered the school music instrument rental program, providing instruments to thousands of students over the years. While the name may have changed, the commitment to music education remains the same.

Our new location is at 9299 Watson Road, near Crestwood Mall just west of Guitar Center. The Music Center of Kirkwood is now City Music. We will continue our mission to provide the finest service for you and your students, and we hope that you will consider City Music for all of your musical needs.

City Music will feature a full line of quality band and orchestra instruments for rent or purchase at very competitive and affordable prices. We are increasing our selections of choral, band, sheet music, and accessories. In addition, our convenient in house state of the art repair shop will remain second to none, with expert craftsmen in brass, woodwinds, strings, electronics, and accordions ready to meet your repair needs. Our new store will also feature:

· 13 lesson rooms for piano, drums, guitar, brass, woodwinds, strings, voice etc

· A recording studio and jam room for both adult and young bands

· A café and lounge area, plus an outdoor patio

· PA system rentals and sales, and karaoke systems

· A music education center for group and home schooling classes
