About Us

Focus on Learning is located in Columbia, Mo and for twenty-five years has been helping students (kindergarten through college) succeed in school.

Focus on Learning teachers work with each student to set up an individual program. We do not require a long-term contract or ask for pre-payment for services.

Students who attend Focus on Learning

• Set specific goals (reading, writing, math, sciences etc.) Homework is usually included in the goals. Testing is not mandatory but may be recommended for some students. Teachers incorporate informal testing into their first session.

• Work only with an experienced subject specialist teacher, not a generalist. The teacher uses both school and supplemental materials.

• Meet with the same teacher each session to develop a relationship of trust and to build continuity in learning. The teacher will monitor progress and identify the most effective learning strategies for each student.

• Receive instruction in a private room,which allows open discussion between the student and teacher while minimizing distractions. Trust between teacher and student is essential for learning.

The experienced teachers at Focus on Learning are trained to work with all students, including those who need modifications to optimize their learning: the gifted, LD, and ADHD students.

We offer one-on-one tutoring for most subjects including

Math (through Calculus)
English, Reading, Writing
ACT Prep (including Bright Flight Academy)
GRE, GMAT, P/SAT
Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
Study Skills
Foreign Languages
