About GlenMark Farms

GlenMark Farms is owned and operated by Mark and Glenda Ell. Mark worked for Whittaker Homes for 18 years and helped build the New Town development. He did all the stamping in the barn which results in concrete made to look like a real barn floor. Glenda grew up on a farm here in Missouri with mostly sweet corn, soy bean and wheat. Her family also had animals, including over 5000 chickens.  Mark and Glenda's parents were neighbors growing up as Mark's family had a farm as well, which they still have in Cottleville. Mark and Glenda started gardening and farming together on some plots of Mark's family land.

When they moved to New Town it was summer 2011, so they were limited in what they could plant but still pushed forward. Their initial plantings included zuchini, watermelon, pumpkins and cucumbers. They opened the farmer's market initially with items from their garden in Cottleville and started to add in New Town farm items as they were harvested.

2012 was the first full year for GlenMark Farms. All seeds were started in their basement and then transplanted to the greenhouse. Once the seeds had matured they were transplanted to the field. 2012's crop included tomatoes, brussel sprouts, green beans, cucumbers, zuchini, ochra, pees, potatoes, sweet corn, watermelons, cantelope, green peppers, jalapeños, banana peppers, chilli peppers, pumpkins and strawberries. GlenMark Farm also planted 2 year old asparagus which they hope to cut next year.

All the plant beds were cleaned out and tilled in early 2012 and the farm uses them, as well as many area New Town residents. There are still lots available for New Town available for rent for 2013. The local church uses a couple of the lots to help leach kids about gardening.

The barn is one of the original structures that was on the property as part of the Plackmeier family farm, before New Town development began.

GlenMark farms keeps a variety of livestock, including pigs, horses, chickens and a goat.
