About Us
"Specific Care for Your Family's Specific Needs!"
I could not lift my arm due to the pain
"I was playing middle linebacker for my high school football team during my senior year. During one game, I tackled the opposing team’s ball carrier. Our momentum caused us to both land on my right shoulder. By the end of the game, I could barely lift my arm due to the pain. My high school’s team doctor was a chiropractor and adjusted my shoulder. My parents took me to see him at his chiropractic office every day the next week, and I was able to play in the game that next Friday night.” -Dr. Derrijk Hollon, D.C.
I honor the body's inborn potential
"While completing my undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, I took a class on human physiology that really sparked my interest to dig deeper into how the body functions and maintains itself. The human body is fascinating in that it is a self-healing, self-regulating organism that, with proper care, can allow us to achieve our ultimate potential. It was this spark that led me to chiropractic, and put me on the mission to help others unlock their inborn potential through chiropractic." - Dr. Hilary Wendell, D.C.
Chiropractic Education and Training
Dr. Derrijk Hollon, D.C. attended Central College of Iowa in Pella, Iowa, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science, with an emphasis in Athletic Training and Kinesiology. Shortly after graduating from Central, Dr. Derrijk began working in a chiropractic office as a rehabilitation specialist. While he worked in the chiropractic office, he ultimately made the decision to become a chiropractor. Dr. Derrijk enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, and started shortly thereafter. Besides getting a great education, he obtained extra clinical experience by working for and being mentored, by some of the greatest chiropractors the world has known, through the Troxell Intern Program and Gonstead Methodology Institute. He was awarded the Diagnosis Certificate of Merit for his work in the Athletic Training Lab on the Palmer campus. Dr. Derrijk continues to consult with his mentors for guidance while attending and teaching at seminars hosted by both the Troxell Intern Program and Gonstead Methodology Institute.
"The experience and knowledge I have gained, by listening to and then teaching alongside those doctors, has proved invaluable to my patients." - Dr. Derrijk Hollon, D.C.
Dr. Hilary Wendell, D.C. attended The University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. Shortly after graduation, Dr. Hilary enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and received an Academic Excellence Award. In addition to receiving a great education, she gained extra clinical experience by working for and being mentored, by some of the greatest chiropractors in the world, through the Troxell Intern Program and Gonstead Methodology Institute. After dedicating over 1,000 hours of additional study outside of Palmer through the Troxell Intern Program, she was awarded the "White Rabbit" award for her excellence and determination in the study of the Gonstead system of Chiropractic. Dr. Hilary also continues to consult with her mentors for guidance while attending and teaching at seminars hosted by both the Troxell Intern Program and Gonstead Methodology Institute.
"The insight and wisdom we experience by working alongside such prestigious chiropractors is second to none." - Dr. Hilary Wendell, D.C.
Doctors on a Mission
In the fall of 2012, both Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Ilhéus, Brazil on a chiropractic mission trip with Palmer College of Chiropractic. A group of chiropractic students made the journey to South America to provide chiropractic care to a community that did not ordinarily have access to a chiropractor. During the week that the team was there, approximately 3,000 people from the city and surrounding communities travelled to the temporary clinic set up beneath the bleachers of the city’s soccer stadium to receive chiropractic care. The experience touched both doctors deeply as they were able to help bring hope and relief from pain to the people there.
We have the Greatest Job in the World
“If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life, and we love chiropractic!” – Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk
Every day Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk get to assist people, putting a smile on their face and a skip in their step, all through helping them regain their health. When humans are healthy and feel good, they tend to take their health for granted. However, when something goes wrong, they are suddenly faced with the stark reality that, without their health, very little else matters. Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk look forward to talking to people and walking them through their specific health problem. The doctors explain the causes of their patient’s problem, how to correct it, and then how to avoid it in the future. This is where Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk have the biggest impact, not only on that individual, but everyone they influence; their family, friends, co-workers - anyone with whom they have a connection.
By looking at all the different parts of a patient’s clinical picture, their nervous system, x-rays, posture, movement, symptoms, and lifestyle, Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk are able to help them promptly and get results that last. Seeing the changes in people's lives when they are able to get back to living life in a bigger and better manner than they have previously is extremely exciting and why Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk are so enthusiastic about what they do.
Outside Hollon Family Chiropractic
Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk met while attending Palmer College of Chiropractic. They greatly enjoy spending time in the great outdoors: hiking, camping, swimming, ice fishing, biking, or picking up a game of volleyball or disc golf. Family is very important to them, and they try to spend as much time as they can with their families in both Wisconsin and in Missouri.
Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk are very involved in the Jefferson City community, and are members of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson City Young Professionals, Jefferson City Jaycees, and are board members on the Jefferson City Special Olympics "Over the Edge" committee. Regularly, they work with organizations such as the Special Olympics and United Way of Central Missouri as a means to give back to a community that has given them so much. To date, Hollon Family Chiropractic, has raised thousands of dollars for these charities that aid those in the Jefferson City community.
Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk both believe in leading by example and being real. They follow a healthy diet plan, exercise as often as possible, and of course they make sure they get adjusted regularly. Dr. Hilary and Dr. Derrijk expect patients to take their health seriously. A patient’s health is their most valuable resource.
Why I am a Doctor of Chiropractic:
Because I honor the inborn potential of everyone to be truly healthy. Because I desire to help the newborn, the aged, and those without hope. Because I choose to care for the patient with the disease, not the disease. Because I wish to assist rather than intrude; to free rather than control. Because I seek to correct the cause, not its effect. Because I know doctors do not heal, only the body can heal itself. Because I have been called to serve others. Because I want to make a difference. Because every day I get to witness miracles. Because I know it is right.”
~Anonymous
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
~Thomas A. Edison
