We are located at the corner of 5th & Walnut in Downtown KC's Historic River Market neighborhood.
 
Our business is six months old and growing. We currently operate a Coffee Shop, Bakery, Grill and Cocktail Bar. Our Store also offers Small Businesses the opportunity to advertise and sell products in one of our unique advertising kiosks. One notable feature of the store is our unique comfortable atmosphere, where one is sure to find a space to sit and read, eat or enjoy a hot cup of Joe.
 
Our name "Opera House" comes from the fact that we sit on the spot where Kansas City’s first Opera House once stood. Built in the 1800's, the Gillis Opera House was one of the finest in the country. Some of the best performers of the day were entertaining Kansas City’s patrons of the arts. The painting on the wall in our Bakery was painted from a photo taken opening night of the Gillis Opera House on June 27, 1883. The Gillis Opera House operated for 20 years before being destroyed. The building we occupy today has a plaque outside that reads Gillis Opera House with two years "1883" and "1926." They represent the years in which the first and the current buildings were completed.

Opera House is a proud member of the River Market Community Association and the Missouri Restaurant Association. We received a letter of congratulations from Kansas City Mayor James for our unique business model and for our commitment to a better Kansas City. Numerous write ups in the Kansas City Star feature Opera House as a "Unique" and "Eclectic" place to hang out. Joyce Smith wrote, "Opera House Notably Eclectic…” Jenee Osterheldt wrote that Opera House is "my kind of place.” The July 2012 issue of KC Magazine features Opera House as a "Hot Spot.” Opera House helps Kansas City’s people in need through generous donations and continued support of the following organizations: Habitat for Humanity Operation re-store, Kansas City Goodwill Industries, The Salvation Army, and the Disabled American Veterans. Thanks to our valued customers and our partner venders we are able to continue helping make our larger community better.
