Richards Electric Motor Company

Richards Electric Motor Company in Quincy, IL was founded in June of 1954 by Carl W. Richards. It was located in a 5,000 square feet facility with one old vehicle. Today it is located in a 110,000 square feet facility with 40 employees. The company has grown from being an electric motor repair shop into a multi-functional company. Today we still do electric motor repair, but we now have an outstanding sales department that sells over 30 different products (located on product page). We also have a highly skilled service and construction department that can offer turn-key projects.

Our liscenced, industrial electricians and service staff offer in-shop and on-site balancing of fans, impellers, straw choppers, rotors, and any other electrical rotating equipment. We also provide electrical engineering and electrical contracting. Our electrical engineers and staff technologists will work with you to provide streamlined process design and instrumentation, electrical design and construction management and more.

Some of the most requested services we provide include:

• Arc flash analysis- With arc flash analysis we assess the risk of arc flash, which is a dangerous rapid release of energy due to arc faults, in which the air is the conductor. Arc flash analysis enables our clients to assess the type of PPE (Personal protective equipment) needed in the work place. We also work to design systems in which arc fault current is detected and the voltage shut down before arc flash occurs.

• Variable frequency drive systems- Variable frequency drive systems control the speed and toqure of AC motors by varying input voltage and frequency. The applications that a variable frequency drive can be used for are virtually limitless and the energy efficiency compared to fixed speed drives is considerable. Many systems can even be retro-fitted with variable frequency drives. There have been many advances in technology over the years that we have since specialized in that make variable frequency drives more affordable, smaller, and higher performance than ever before.
