My Grandfather, E. T. Tennyson opened Tennyson in 1936 as a sewing machine sales and repair shop in his garage on Capital Avenue in Jefferson City, MO. Shortly after he moved to a store front on Jefferson Street just south of High Street across and up the hill from what is now Town Grill. Just after WWII he started selling new appliances which were very rare due to the steel shortage. Tennyson’s sold and repaired ringer washers, gas furnaces and sewing machines. In 1946 Tennyson’s moved to the current location and quickly began expanding in both size and product offering. In 1989 Dan Miller, Mr. Tennyson’s Grandson took over the daily operations of the business. Today Tennyson’s is a full-line furniture only store.
