Review of Woodman Engineering

by William Duenow on 7/15/2014
My wife and I moved into our current Residence the summer of 2001. The house as a whole was antiquated but the price, location and condition was perfect. One of the must haves for our house hunting during the summer of 2001 was Central Air Conditioning. Not really knowing the brand reputations we were not concerned with the manufacturer but we did know that Carrier was one of the leaders in the market. So know that we are moved in we are now set to start the “homeowners experience” of upkeep but little did we know that Woodman Engineering would become our new preferred HVAC service provider for life. Approximately 5 years ago the compressor to our AC unit started to fail. Knowing that we should probably upgrade we started calling around to local HVAC installers for estimates. We called four companies in our local area and all of them came out to our house, assessed the situation with the current system and provided bids for replacements. All of these companies (Authorized Dealers for various HVAC equipment) bid the work out from $4K-$6K except one company. Woodman Engineering in Jefferson City Mo (Authorized Dealer for Carrier) sent out a salesman to access our situation. The Woodman salesman gave me a bid but also added that he was the person that installed the equipment in our house before we been owners. He advised us that the Carrier compressor merely needed a new cooling fan motor and that they could do the work for less than $200. So from that point I knew that when our AC unit ever needed service or replacement we would be using Woodman Engineering. So the years went by and even though the summers were hot we always kept cool with our Carrier AC working great. So this summer my wife and I discussed an upgrade to our house. I mentioned to her that I didn’t think our AC unit would last much longer because it kept freezing up on us which required defrosting the system inside the home. I called only Woodman Engineering to again assess the situation. The Salesman came out and gave us our estimate again but advised that they could fix our freezing problem by recharging our compressor gas. My wife and I debated and decided the time was right to go ahead and replace the system and install not only a new AC unit but a Heat Pump unit as well. So we started the process and to our discovery we found out that the old Carrier unit we had in the house was manufactured in 1983. I was 13 years old in 1983. The Berlin Wall that separated East and West Germany still had six years before it would fall. Michael Jackson introduced the world to the “moon walk” in 1983. Personal Computers were not a common thing and Cell Phones were non-existent in 1983. What floors us is that this 31 year old system could have been fixed. Woodman Engineering gave us that option. We chose to replace and Woodman Engineering worked with our schedule, were polite and courteous, and sent several technicians to ensure the job was finished in a timely basis. They laid down rug covers so as not to track in or out any dirt. They cleaned up the area under the old AC Unit before installing the new. They also took the time to answer questions and review the new equipment’s operation and maintenance. Bottom line they had exceptional service throughout the whole process. Only speculation can know how much longer that old unit could have lasted. The quality and years; scratch that; decades of service that we were able to get out of our old Carrier system made us lifelong customers of Carrier products. My family is proud to say that we own a Carrier system and we know that our next upgrade should be around the year 2044 at which time we will be calling Woodman Engineering.
