Review of Sac River Kennels

by Samantha Dellinger on 2/27/2019
We bought a Frenchton puppy from Sac River in 2016. While we love our pup so very much, we have also been severely disappointed with the number of health problems he has had, many that are due to breeding and conditions that he was living in before being sent to us. These include:  1. Giardia  2. Severe allergies and skin problems  3. Cataracts  We battled with his giardia for 7 whole months after we got him, a parasite that is a direct result of consuming dirty water. I reached out to Sac River about this problem right away, to which they responded that we should have given him the mystery pills they taped to his kennel to treat “stress related stomach problems”. I cannot even count on 2 hands the number of times we went to the vet in the first year of his life.  A few months after we got him, his skin also started breaking out in to crazy rashes. We have since been battling with his itching, rashes, and overall skin problems to no avail thus far. We feel horrible for him every day that he is living in skin that has been crawling and itching eery day for the last two years. Switching to grain free food has done no good, pills have done no good, and we cannot get to the bottom of these mystery skin issues.  Finally, in the last few weeks we have noticed, and today he was officially diagnosed with, a cataract. This is believed to be genetic, and is the final straw that is bringing me to write this review today. He is only two and a half years old and, because of Sac River’s lack of care for the health of their puppies, will be severely vision impaired by the time he is a young 3 years old.  We would not trade our pup for the world, but I would suggest to any prospective dog owner to please go elsewhere, to a breeder that has proof of safe and responsible breeding practices, because Sac River is irresponsibly breeding dogs in an environment that is only doing harm to their puppies.
